On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, the Consulting & Research Centre at Cihan University – Duhok, in collaboration with the College of Business Economics at Al-Nahrain University in Baghdad, organized an international webinar titled “Nanotechnology and Its Applications”. The event brought together over 100 participants, including academics and specialists from Iraq and abroad.
The webinar featured Professor Dr. Yarub Kahtan, a renowned scientist and researcher in nanotechnology and renewable energy from Malaysia, as the keynote speaker. Professor Kahtan presented a comprehensive lecture on the latest developments in nanotechnology, its applications across various sectors, and its role in fostering sustainable development and innovation.
The session was chaired by Dr. Nawar Al-Saadi, Assistant Professor of International Economics at the College of Business Economics, Al-Nahrain University, who opened the webinar by welcoming the participants and emphasizing the strategic importance of nanotechnology for economic development and knowledge-based transformation in Iraq and the region.
The event was also attended by Professor Dr. Nagham Hussein Ne’ma, Dean of the College of Business Economics, who highlighted the college’s commitment to promoting scientific collaboration and research partnerships with international universities, particularly in cutting-edge scientific fields that represent the future of the global economy.
The webinar covered multiple key topics, including the wide-ranging applications of nanotechnology in medicine, energy, environment, and advanced industries. It also examined countries leading investments in this sector, such as the United States, China, Japan, and South Korea, and discussed the opportunities and challenges for Iraq to successfully adopt and integrate nanotechnology, including research funding, specialized laboratories, and supportive regulatory frameworks.
The session included extensive discussions and interactive interventions from participants, focusing on integrating nanotechnology into Iraqi academic curricula, fostering international research collaborations, and enhancing cooperation between universities and industry for practical applications.

The webinar concluded that nanotechnology represents a crucial pillar of the modern global economy. Its adoption in Iraq could diversify the economy, enhance industrial and scientific innovation, and accelerate the country’s transition to a knowledge-based economy.
